Foundation donation to Camp Menogyn

Sunday, July 22nd, 2007

We are very proud to announce a donation to Camp Menogyn from the Foundation to establish scholarships for disadvantaged youth to attend Camp Menogyn.

Emily was a camper at Menogyn and then a guide for 4 years. Her sister was a camper for 2 years. Her parents , Paul and Becky, met at the camp. Her dad was also a guide at Menogyn for 5 years.

Paul also drove his wooden canoe out and donated it to the camp in Emily’s honor. It will be named “Nin-nim” which means “I dance” in the Ojibwa language. It will also have a plaque on it honoring Emily.

The camp dedicated a bench to Emily down by the lake which will have a plaque on it in her honor. They had a memorial of stories and poems by her dad and the staff. They also sang some of her favorite songs. Her sister, Laura, and family friend, Berit, jumped in the lake in Emily’s honor. Em did that at the end of almost every campfire at Menogyn.

The whole ceremony sounded wonderful and such a perfect tribute to Em.

Emily’s Birthday and trail party

Saturday, July 14th, 2007

Yesterday was Emily’s birthday and trail party. We had a wonderful group attend. We worked on the trail, making drainage areas  and berms to divert rain water and prevent future damage to the trail. The rangers from Open Space were wonderful.

Then we  all came back to our house for bagels and goodies. The house was filled with flowers and music.

My brother flew in from California again and was a great asset with his humor and hard work.

I wanted to thank all  of you that attended and also our wonderful network of friends and family across the nation for their support on this day.

She would be very proud of this active and energetic day and how we chose to honor her.
