Foundation donation to Camp Menogyn
Sunday, July 22nd, 2007We are very proud to announce a donation to Camp Menogyn from the Foundation to establish scholarships for disadvantaged youth to attend Camp Menogyn.
Emily was a camper at Menogyn and then a guide for 4 years. Her sister was a camper for 2 years. Her parents , Paul and Becky, met at the camp. Her dad was also a guide at Menogyn for 5 years.
Paul also drove his wooden canoe out and donated it to the camp in Emily’s honor. It will be named “Nin-nim” which means “I dance” in the Ojibwa language. It will also have a plaque on it honoring Emily.
The camp dedicated a bench to Emily down by the lake which will have a plaque on it in her honor. They had a memorial of stories and poems by her dad and the staff. They also sang some of her favorite songs. Her sister, Laura, and family friend, Berit, jumped in the lake in Emily’s honor. Em did that at the end of almost every campfire at Menogyn.
The whole ceremony sounded wonderful and such a perfect tribute to Em.
