Open Space trail 401 dedication

Subject: Emily’s trail dedication-located between the Menaul and Indian School Open Space parking lots

Hello everyone,

Today we dedicated a trail to Emily in the open space. You would have
liked the day. We put up the signs adopting the trail in her memory. Then
Paul and I both read a poem that we had written. Then we walked the trail
and did trail work for two hours. We had 24 of our friends come and 5
rangers!
The weather was just what Em liked- cloudy and cool with a light drizzle. The
hawk was also flying overhead in the clouds.
Everyone came back here for bagels and brownies, even the rangers.
It was a good day filled with Em’s energy and spirit.

Love,
Becky Sandall

Poem by Becky Sandall, Emily’s mom:

She ran these trails, free as the wind.

Her spirit moves me.

We feel her love ,

As she navigates new territory.

Forever in our hearts…….

Missoula Memorial

Thursday, February 8th, 2007

There will be a memorial for Emily in Missoula, MT, Saturday, February 17. Emily’s friends in Missoula are organizing the activities. For starters there is a run/walk scheduled at 9:45 Meet  at the Union Hall above the Union Club in downtown Missoula at 208 E. Main St. There will then be a memorial gathering with eulogies, remembrances, songs, stories, laughter, tears, pictures, and whatever the winds may bring at 1:00 pm at the Union Hall with a potluck afterwards.

Becky, Laura, and I will be there and I look forward to seeing all the Montana folk. If you are coming from out of town and need a place to stay contact me and I will try to set you up with someone.

I am sure Emily would be embarrassed by all this attention, yet she would also be so very touched and proud.

Memorial Tree

Thursday, February 8th, 2007

Mandy Scarberry had the city plant a Purple Autumn Ash in the local Piedra Lisa Park as a memorial for Emily. There is a plaque at the base of the tree with Emily’s name. Thanks so much, Mandy and T.J. for your kindness.
